Hi I just wanted to share a quick story about the Mermaid and Child. I'm a Laguna local and live on Nyes Place. I have 2 children that grew up on the sand and sea of Victoria Beach. June 25th 2005 my son pasted away. His Funeral was July 3rd 2005. About 7 pm. that evening the family all gathered together at my home and we walked down to VIctoria Beach to place my sons ashes in the cove just north of the stairs. As we turned the corner there was the most beautiful sight. A Mother Mermaid holding her Baby Mermaid. What makes this so remarkable for me is that, as I walked holding my son's ashes a felt like I couldn't let him go. Then I thought, maybe I could just go with him, into the sea and never come back up for air. The moment I saw your sand sculpture, I new I was in the right place at the right time with my son's ashes and it was ok to release him to the sea. I choose that cove for many reasons, Ian loved to fish from the rocks, Boogie board, walk the dog and climb on the rocks. He loved that beach. Seeing the sculpture of the Mother & Child gave me the courage to what I had to do that evening.
four and a half years later My daughter was meeting a friend for coffee at Heidelburg, saw your art work on the wall and purchased the Mermaid and Baby for me. It now hangs in my store Strands Knitting Studio in San Clemente. I love the picture. It gives me a feeling that Ian and I are not so far apart.
I just wanted to share this with you and thank you for helping me through the toughest time in my life.
With Gratitude, Christine Chesley

I love the slide show of you two working on the mermaid at the Indain Wells Art Festival! My uncles kept laughing at me because I kept on going back to your booth all day long just to see how the mermaid was coming along! I think she turned out awesome! Next time I travel out to California I hope that I will be able to see some more of your mermaid sand art!
